Unbelievable, you really can't distinguish between facts and opinions!
Guys, I understand how much, given your kind of ego's, this must hurt. I really do, but you were taken for suckers.

It is completely enough to read the headline "Barnier sidelined..." and ignore the rest of the (as usual high quality express article).
It seems this piece of information is quite enough for the non-EU posters in this thread.

Ok, irony off again.

There is not a single bit of sidelining mentioned in the article...

Let me ask You one personal question please. Please do not get me wrong, I do not want to be rude but You are spending so much time answering posts from ignorant persons in this forum. Why are You doing that?

Best regards...
Hi 7779311,

Although I've been a civil servant for over 20 years, at heart I'm still a scientist. Facts matter for me as such. In all my years as advisor I always told younger collegues: don't repeat what somebody else told you, always go to the original source and check. Because if you repeat others, and it turns out to be wrong, the blame is on you, not on those others.

On this forum, officially the rule is that your statement must be accompanied by a link, so others can easily go to the root source. Many don't or cite newspaper headings, like you say in your post.

I have no difficulty with an opinion, everybody is entitled to have them. But some here present arguments that are (their own) opinions. The moment he or she refuses to provide a link, you know their argument was in fact a lie, intended to deceive other visitors of this forum. By doing so they degrade themselves, but more important, they degrade this forum's standing and everyone posting there.
There is nothing wrong with discussing opinions, but you should be honest enough to provide the facts that convinced you, so these facts can convince others. That's a debate.

So far, so good

I wonder if Barnier has been updated
If he has read the EU-UK press release, he knows there is work to do for him.
Sidelined you said? How wrong can a man be!

The Parties agreed nevertheless that new momentum was required. They supported the plans agreed by Chief Negotiators to intensify the talks in July and to create the most conducive conditions for concluding and ratifying a deal before the end of 2020. This should include, if possible, finding an early understanding on the principles underlying any agreement.*

Hello Solasch,

was my irony really not obvious enough? It seems You took my post seriously.

I really honor your effort and eagerness in discussing things. And usually You provide proof or at least links for nearly everything You claim. But most of the others do *not*, that is why I was wondering why You spend (and I think You waste) Your precious time trying to accomplish something in those conversations.

This is the second Brexit forum which I read and also I see no consent in these discussions. In my view they don't lead to anything.

So please don't be offended and thank You for Your explanation.

To the topic: From what I read about the "high level" meeting, there were some vague words but nothing of substance. Hm...

You switched off irony, and then put up a question. I tried to explain my motives for wasting time on types like etc.

On topic: contrary to expectations of some brexiters, the entering of big guns didn't bring any kind of breakthrough. So barnier and frost have to whip up their teams to try and make use of the planned time. And little of it remains.

Does it matter? The deal boris struck on northern ireland will still have to be honoured by the EU (= ireland). Boris of course will gladly go ahead with a deal he himself negotiated!

A (translated) quote from that article:
European Council President Charles Michel, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Parliament President David Sassoli and EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier met with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday afternoon about the state of play in the Brexit talks.

Seems to me that the EU are beginning to realise the can't push the English to their way of thinking. We didn't give in during the world wars like those on the continent did who rolled on their backs in submission.

We in the UK are made of stronger stuff and the more push the greater the resistance.

The UK is the best place to live where we can select those in power and have the freedom of speech. We even still have our own currency and our own national flag. we didn't again give in to foreign dictators.

I AM ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF IT
