I'm a bit of a sucker all the lights and switches (sad I know ). I was disappointed when car manufacturers announced recently that car dashboards would be simplified.

I have to say I'm not a fan of all the touch screen stuff they have now.

Re: Japanese Car Syndrome - You Won't Remember!

I don't like the German philosophy of car selling. Start off with the basic -pay more for the extras- then time to sell those "extras" don't add any more value to the selling price.

Japanese philosophy is basic - middle of range -top of range . So come time to sell no value lost as there are no "add on extras"
would I ever have a German car? NO way

owned at different times

3x Toyota Amazon 4.2lt deisel - Toyota 4 runner- 2x lexus RX300 SE-L - Honda CR-V- Honda Civic- Isuzu Citation etc and never had one break down

Drive a Toyota Amazon 4.2 ltr Diesel and you king of the road

MUCH cheaper to make and install though. Same with the coil pack ignition system and multipoint fuel injection. Do away with carbs and distributor plus much better fuel economy and performance.

I hate them. Apart from being a sod to start sometimes there's a lot to be said for the old Anglia 105e - 123e. Do just about anything with a pair of Mole grips - well almost.

Are they the ones with the funny sloping in back windows?
The police used them at one time, didn't they?

My favourite was, and always will be the good old Morris MInor.

Re: Japanese Car Syndrome - You Won't Remember!

My first car (I have never forgotten the 842 CMU no plate) was a 1954 Ford Anglia 100e, first new style after the old 93A sit up and beg type.

there were three 100e models- Popular-Anglia- Prefect

That 100e had a side value engine 1172cc if my memory is correct. 3 forward gears and a reverse. The window wipers worked off the engine vacuum but if you put your foot down they stopped working
Cost me £125 around 1963 to buy second hand and I loved that car
I actually fitted an air horn which if used properly you could do a wolf whistle with it.

Sue and I had two moggies one I rebuilt from the ground up (new rear door from the scrappies a 4 door version)
and Sue had a 2 door model (plate 294WKM) wickam we called it. The petrol pump a satisfying click I remember. only needed a couple of spanners and screwdrivers to maintain it

we had during that period of time a ford escort MK1- Hillman Imp -Singer Vogue Estate and a Hillman Hunter GT

Me always been a car nut, knew car engines back then like the back of my hand. Worked on many more at a friends house where he had a pit. Did this until very late at night after a days work to earn money to get married and buy a house
doing a cluch change no problem or re shelling the big end bearings let alone doing decarbs easy as was fitting new piston rings

Impossible on new cars now to do this work

Re: Japanese Car Syndrome - You Won't Remember!

Hi

My current car, like the last 4 is Ex Works

We are allowed to buy them, sealed bids above expected auction price.

They have all been upgraded and serviced to death.

This one only has 76k on the clock.

I will last for many years, but I am itching to buy one which has just been made available.

A breathed upon 2 litre Ford Focus Diesel Automatic Estate.

So much torque and the new gearbox.

Heart says yes, head says no.
