I forgot about my paper round Judd. 7/6 for my morning round and 4 bob (4/-) for my evening round, 5 bob (5/-) for a Sunday round and 2 bob (2/-) for the Gazettes on a Thursday dinner time....18/6 a week, that's almost as much pocket money as I get now off Mrs Fox....

10 shillings ?................Keep up Deylon.

I remember going into a pub and asking for a pint and half a half ounce of Old Holborn, and they told me 50 pence wasn't enough.

It was just after a Budget......how times have changed.

Re: How much where you paid for your first job

Depends what you mean by 'job':

I had a paper round with WH Smith while I was still at school and that paid £1 a week. I had a bit of a posh area so all my papers were broadsheets like The Daily Telegraph. I used to envy the boys in areas where all the papers were tabloids like the Mirror.

When I left school I was a Youth in Training for GPO Telephones and my first wage was £4 15s but within months it rose to exactly £5.
