The event was sponsored by local businesses.
It brought many visitors to the village who spent a lot of cash.
I am sure that the police officers on duty were glad of the overtime.
( no resources were diverted from other duties)
Local charities benefited enormously from money raised.
Other local businesses had a profitable day ( ok a lot of those were places where people go to enjoy themselves so that probably doesn't count).
There was no trouble and no mess left ( apart from a few bubbles!)
I had a great day enjoying live music at different venues.

But if anyone feels that they need to dismiss it as a "pathetic ritual" feel free to do so.
I haven't read the thread so I don't even know what it was!
But I like your post, Tregonsee, well said, and I'm pleased lots of people had FUN!!

Too many killjoys, old codgers and old farts around these days.

Re: Resurrection Day

all this is why I asked people to vote about embedding english traditions into the laws of the land - to protect them and enshrine them - well done everyone except those who don't seem to care about british traditional life??

Is that the one run by the hospital? There used to be one like that complete with patient in the bed and accompanied by nurses dressed in traditional white uniforms carrying a drip-feed bottle. A great time was had by all and it raised money for good causes.

True. Some on here wouldn't know what fun is if it jumped up and bit them on the arse.

Re: Resurrection Day

Nothing wrong with tradition and good for people to get together for a bit of chat, food and drinks.

Re: Resurrection Day

I love the tradition of May Day, with the Maypole decorated in pretty flowers and children dancing round it.

Or is it a bit Communist?

Although I wouldn't call fox-hunting a good tradition.

No, it's an ancient Pagan festival of spring and fertility hijacked by the commies.
