Yes, the beauty (at least in most places) and the diversity of this country is unsurpassed in my opinion. Time was that even adjacent villages were considered 'foreign countries' and the language spoken in one part of the country could be almost indecipherable for those in the next part.
Even now, certainly with regard to older people, the accents and dialects in different regions are sufficiently varied as to make the UK one of the most interesting countries in the world.
As I have said before, elsewhere, Mrs JBR and I have decided that this year we shall holiday in this country, not only because of the weak pound, or of the current hold-ups with security, etc, in the airports, but also because there is so much variety in this country and there are places here where we have not yet been, some of which will probably appear to be almost like foreign countries!
