Their are slight differences between a Swallow and House Martin nests, the Swallows nest is basin shaped like a quarter sphere, and the opening is more elongated than the House Martins.A House Martins nest has fewer grass blades than a Swallows, generally incorporating more mud and a smaller opening.
Not sure if this helps with the ID, and it will be a few months before you see if the builders will return. Nests are often occupied as winter nightime roosts by bird such as Goldcrests, Wrens, or Blue tits.
You can always call you new house Dunroamin, i will get my coat.
