Ania, have you had a chance to look at the link I sent in post 2? They make some lovely house signs, whatever you choose in the end.

Their are slight differences between a Swallow and House Martin nests, the Swallows nest is basin shaped like a quarter sphere, and the opening is more elongated than the House Martins.

A House Martins nest has fewer grass blades than a Swallows, generally incorporating more mud and a smaller opening.

Not sure if this helps with the ID, and it will be a few months before you see if the builders will return. Nests are often occupied as winter nightime roosts by bird such as Goldcrests, Wrens, or Blue tits.

You can always call you new house Dunroamin, i will get my coat.

Yes, thanks, I had a look. They do look lovely, but I'm not sure that I want anything other than the name on the house.

We get the off "Dunroamin" here too, but much better was one house in the village with the name "Deen Chavin" which is Doric for "Tired of/given up working".
