I used to know a very artistic couple who spent their entire time, shouting at each other, slagging each other off, and throwing things at each other (not very accurately). It looked like a marriage from hell but the years went on and they were still together still shouting while rearing children, we, their friends, always thought it had to end badly sooner or later and marvelled they hadn't killed each other. But they were great company, they were a joy to be around, the arguing was part of the entertainment.
Then one day the lady had to going into hospital for about a week... what a change, he was like a dead man, all the life went out of him, she in hospital was exactly the same, miserable, complaining, crying. They had never been apart before for more than a few hours, even their children were home births.
They adored each other, they loved their shouting and rowing... that was their life and they enjoyed every minute of it. I don't accept that discord is a sign of lonely, unhappy people they were just passionate.
