Do you find some people make friends with you if you're useful to them. I had a friend who would keep giving me things because she wanted me to drive her places, we didn't really like each other and she got very demanding, I hated the way she would try to force things on me, got fed up with being expected to go where she wanted to go. The last straw came when we were at a mutual friend's husband's funeral and she insisted on leaving early to go to a garden centre!
