Re: Tennessee Judge Forces Child's Name Change
I don't know if the judge was right to order the name change but I think he has perhaps saved the child from a school lifetime of misery. Children can be very cruel and I have no doubt the child would have been picked on and bullied. This modern trend of giving children ridiculous names is quite sad really, at least for the children who have to grow up with them. For sure if you are rich and famous your friends and hangers on will never poke fun at your name, even if your named "made in China", but for the lesser mortals it will be a school days, at least, time of misery.Re: Tennessee Judge Forces Child's Name Change
Very true Loretta, school days can be a misery for kids with unusual names and can affect them later in life, making them under confident, shy and retiring, parents should always consider this when selecting stupid names for their offspring or they may live to regret it, remember "A boy named Sue"?Re: Tennessee Judge Forces Child's Name Change
Thats a thought Julie, I think John was one of the oldest names so thats as good a place to start as any. If the original John had three brothers and one sister and to save confusion, one brother would be called after his trade or by how he looked, say Big John or Little John, John the rock gatherer would be Rocky John or if he was a holy chap he would be John the Baptist. The sister would naturally be a Jill and if she made barrels she would be known as Jilly Cooper (never knew she was that old). sorry I'm getting carried away now.Re: Tennessee Judge Forces Child's Name Change
My dad's sister was named Janet but was known as Jinny, Sylvia was AMelia, Margarita was Rita, Robert, like me was BOb, Joseph was Ted & William was BIll, confusing ennit?
