Re: Boiler Service

Emjay, the way some retired people send fortunes on service agreements I can only assume they are retired Public Sector workers on nice fat pensions and not working Joe Blogs eeking out life on the State Pension.
The big divide and un-level working conditions in the UK.

Re: Boiler Service

Duke of earl I Live on a basic state pension , I have no other pensions . I hate paying £15 a month to southern electric , but it gives me peace of mind knowing they will come out in 24 hours . Before I payed monthly I struggled to find a gas fitter to come out , I would have to wait days or weeks with no hot water or heating . So I fit this payment into my monthly outgoings .

First let me say, I do not have insurance on my washing machines, dish washer, or dryer. It is just as cheap to replace them.
If you read my profile, you will see I was self employed for 47 years.
No big pensions just my state one and a small private one that would just pay for my bread and milk.
As my wife is disabled, and I am her carer, she does get her allowances.

Well I sure aint insuring my boiler. It has three replaceable parts and two last forever . The first thermo-couple lasted some 20 years and they cost about a fiver. As the gas fitter said it will last forever.
The Cooker we have had for a least 37 years (yes looks just like new ones) and has never gone wrong apart from the oven element which I can change easy in under 15 mins, keep them as spares.
Yes you are right, insuring most stuff is a con. No bigger con than car servicing .

Re: Boiler Service

Central heating isn't rocket science and I recon that most people could easily diagnose and fix problems. In addition, modern indoor boilers tend to be sealed to room and most houses have CO alarms.

If, as I have, you socialised with doctors, dentists, lawyers, car mechanics - and plumbers - mainly over a few pints, you will find that they tell you things they do not say if you consult them professionally.

IMO, extended warranties and maintenance contracts are a waste of money.
