Following on what Barry just said.I won 2k on the pools once. Great I thought as it was worth a lot more then.
But I thought about how much I had spent on the pools over the years that I did it.
More than I had won. Never did the pools again again.

My sister spends £16 a week on the National lottery and Irish lottery The other week she won £123 and was thrilled. I hadn't the heart to point out how much she had spent over the years to win that!I feel sorry for people l have known who were convinced that they would win the big one! They died, never winning a thing!

I suppose it took over from the football pools which a great many people used to do. I myself used to do two lines a week of eight from ten which used to cost around five bob, and once got eight draws on Vernons which made eighteen grand so not a bad return on investment.
