Re: Does anyone remember?

We used to have a weekly delivery of soft drinks and got money off our order for bottle returns
Most bottles now are plastic and they go in the recycling bin

I can't quite recall how much it was, probably pennies but it still didn't stop us kids dilligently searching for empty corona bottles to take back and get that precious money.

Do you think it would be a good idea to bring this back?
A brilliant idea SG, in fact glass can be re-cycled 100% whereas most plastics either go into landfill or are discarded on verges, in rivers and end up on the beach or in some animals stomach.

Glass does not absorb anything that has been stored in it and can be rinsed out and re-used, but plastic retains small amounts of the contents and can not always be used again, especially for foodstuffs. Returned Milk bottles can be used over and over again but plastic milk containers only ever get used once.

More things should be returned to glass storage if we are serious about saving the planet and so offering a small fee for it's return would be a step in the right direction.

Two and threepence for a quart bottle of Ben Shaw's pop with the threepence returned for the empty. We were limited to one bottle per week and had to make it last - can't see kids today doing that. They used to come round selling Davenport's beer door to door too with money back on the empties - we couldn't collect that because they picked them up themselves. (gits )

Perhaps being able to return bottles for cash would stop kids chucking them in the rivers and leaving them on pavements. I agree this should be brought back.

Re: Does anyone remember?

The 'Corona' man used to deliver a crate of four bottles each week and we received a discount on the next order if we returned the empty bottles and wooden crate the following week.
