Re: Bureaucracy
Thought about this last night after watching an old edition of Grand Designs. The Geezer was building a house that had been a dream, 20 years in the making, he had owned the land for that period of time, and had followed all protocols through the planning process. At about 60% of the way through the build, a neighbour decided to complain the the building was too high, and after a visit from Building Control, it was established that because of a misunderstanding where exactly the Architects setting out point was, the building against the plans was indeed about 12 inches to tall. Rather than reduce the building height, the guy resubmitted retrospective plans with concessions on a balcony and window removal which were deemed acceptable by the Council Committee so, the guy pushed on, not realising the committee had not backed up the acceptance in writing. At this point, the neighbour employed a solicitor who threatened the committee with some sort of High Court injunction, at which point the committee had a big wobble, and called a halt on everything. The guy then had to petition his case, direct to the committee (who were not specialists in construction or planning legislation) and fortunately won.Re: Bureaucracy
