Here's another sentence that would prove confusing to me.

"Jones faces criticism of others who oppose his policy positions, as does opponent, John Smith and many others"

Now I know the above is correct, but it makes it look as though John Smith also faces criticism, so how can it make sense and be correct!! DOH!

I would have thought it would be "from many others" as it's Jones getting it.
Apart from that it makes sense.

Confusing isn't it TessA? I think it is the words "as does" that are the culprits that make it look as though John Smith and many others also face criticism. Yet, the whole sentence is correct.

I'm definitely out of sync with English Language now.

Believe me Nom, it hasn't been easy to train him! It's taken over 45 years, but we eventually got there.
