It would be interesting to know of any famous people connected with the town where you live now or previously lived.

I have lived in Bristol all my life and the well known names with connections to the city are:

Isambard Kingdom Brunel, not born in Bristol but he built the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

John and Charles Wesley - John was founder of the Methodist Church. His brother, Charles was well known as a prolific hymn-writer including `'Jesu lover of my soul", "love Divine" and "Hark the Herald Angels Sing"

Elizabeth Blackwell was born in Bristol and the family emigrated to the Untied States where she became the first female doctor.

Cary Grant, film star, was born not far from where I used to live.

Samuel Plimsoll was born in Bristol. His campaign led to the Merchant Shipping Act of 1876, instructing the "Plimsoll Line" to be painted on the hull of every ship to mark its load line.

William Gilbert (WG) Grace, the famous cricketer.

John Cabot - Italian explorer who sailed from Bristol to Newfoundland.

Billy Butlin of Butlin's Holiday Camp fame.
There were actually lots of famous people from the area where I was born & grew up. John Hart was the quarterback for the St. Louis football Cardinals, Jackie Joiner Kersey was an olympic gold medalist in track & field, Jimmy Conner was a Hall of Fame pro tennis champion & finally Leon & Michael Spinks were both world champion pro boxers.
