Re: Just beyond me

It's nothing to do with getting old, Aysa!
It's about what is sensible and what is reasonable?

What on earth do kids need hats for anyway????
We had to wear stupid berets in the winter and stupid straw boaters in the summer. Crazy. We used to cut the tits off the berets, and use the boaters for frisbees!!!
Hats are SO educational, not!!

And that was a million years ago when I was young!
Nothing changes.
Little boys still get stuffed into blazers, and wear caps which were casual wear for the Edwardians!!

Better stop before my blood pressure goes through the roof!!

Skin cancer - melanoma.
From long term exposure to the sun.
Cumulative ? Sure !
But, good habits are formed when young.

Of course, Brits might never see sun, I suppose.

Oh come on!!
Do you honestly think that the ANCIENT school uniform habit in our country derives from the wish to keep our darlings healthy!!
It's all about snobbery and image.

In the summer yes sun hats should be worn, but they DO NOT cost £22!!

Separating the great british public from their cash is an artform, so come on you tightwads and spend, spend, spend, dont forget to get your Halloween stuff as well.

Re: Just beyond me

When I went to my school in 1965 boys who could not swim had to have a white button sown into their cap. The official reason was that if they fell in the river others could see he was a non swimmer. Sounds more like public humiliation to me.
