Re: Cups & Saucers

Well my Nan said she started doing it when she was in service and the lady she worked for expected her to drink her tea in seconds she had to cool it quickly to drink up fast or the break she was allowed was gone before she could drink it. She was only allowed 2 loo breaks a day then too

Re: Cups & Saucers

Ooo I know, reading a book at present about people in service - mind you, my folks weren't, but I guess everday was a busy day, so maybe that was the reason, too much to be getting on with ......

Re: Cups & Saucers

I do wish more people made saucers to go with mugs.
Most people seem to use mugs rather than cups these days and without saucers drips go everywhere.

I am not a mug fan so I use a very large cup and saucer, same quantity of tea as a mug but nicer thinner china cup. Wonder if that is an option ?

I use a china mug Julie I find large cups tend to be wider at the top so the liquid cools too quickly .
I can get a saucer to use with the mug but it does not match.

That's very true Meg. I bought a pretty bone china mug recently, and that has got a wide top, and as you say, the tea cools a lot quicker. I was really surprised at the difference.

I use a mug too but I have coasters all over the place which solves the problem of the lack of saucers and easier to manage.

I suppose I could complain that all my mugs are different shapes and colours (but who cares?)
