My candle is lit. We owe them so much.

Lights out pretty much observed round my way, a day and time to give thoughts to those that paid a price for what we take for granted these days.

If only the world would learn. Tonight we have a candle burning but tomorrow war goes on.

Truly lovely posts.
I wish I could have got to Folkestone yesterday, Prince Harry was there and the veterans of course.
An amazing 'arch' had been erected at the gateway to where the soldiers walked to their destiny - it is so beautiful in stainless steel and so impressive by night as imitation diamonds sparkle from it by night ...........

Re: Bless them all - 1914 - 1918

Its was dark around here too. I have a solar lamp as I wouldn't dare
trust myself with a candle.

Thoughts of both my Granddads who were in the War.
My Granddad Lewis survived and was classed as a hero for saving
a lot of men and horses as he was in the Royal Irish Dragoon Guards.
My Granddad Arthur went with his three Brothers, Laurie,
Squire, Albert and all were gassed on the Somme but all came
back which was good in one way. They were all never the same
after the gas though.
My great Uncle on my Grandmas side died in one of the last
months of the War in 1918.
The women at home also suffered during these 4 years as well.
They were left alone to look after the kids and fret everyday
whether their sons, or husbands, brothers, or cousins were ever
coming back
What isn't mentioned much is that lots of Bankers were sent to
the War and many Banks suffered money loses because the educated
staff never came back so the economy suffered too.
Good job we had an Empire in those days.
Bless them all and RIP the brave people they were.

Great post Sandy
They were truly great men - and boys - whatever colour or creed and as you rightly say the women folk were also a credit to this country - they endured so much and kept on going ........

Really lovely, touching posts. Must have been horrendous for the families waiting on the return of their loved ones. Makes you feel very humble indeed.

Yes we also lit a candle, as it was pitch black outside here. Coco didn't think much of it though, she wanted us to go to bed, I got her to go upstairs on her own and I came back down again.

We will always remember the men who died for our Country.
