Re: Learning a new language

Well done & good luck to anyone who has or can master a new language. I am useless at languages other than my own. I couldn't learn any, though I tried, my brain couldn't grasp the accents nor the written parts.

Re: Learning a new language

i used to be good at learning new phrases or words in another language but now i find as I'm getting older, I just can't remember the words. I would remember one day and then its gone the next - the joys of getting older

Re: Learning a new language

I always find that immersing myself in a language is a good way to learn.

Reading newspapers (always easy) and listening to music, meeting fluent or native speakers and just not having any choice its really the best way.

The Swedish word 'fat' (written with a circle over the 'a') means 'dish' or 'platter' and is pronounced 'fart'. Makes me laugh every time I hear Tomas Ledin sing it. The song is also quite naughty as he tells her he's offering her his body and similar sentiments.

I love languages and have a cat who understands Gaelic.

I'm currently creating my own language.
