Our administrator owner is Azz - a man. Would be odd if he didn't respond he is usually quite good at answering questions.

He is a busy man runs several forums or may just be away at the moment. I think he does have a life away from forums (I hope he does anyway ). Is it something one of the mods could help with ? I have always found them helpful.

Thank you for showing an interest in helping me out. I have been moving around a lot these past days and I figured my little confusion out...

Re: Asking for Directions

One thing I often notice watching American TV shows & films.
When giving directions or tracking a vehicle etc Americans use the compass directions E.G. North on Such Street or West for two blocks on Any Ave.

Here it would be more like "along High Street towards town"
or "at the junction turn left away from the motorway".

How do Americans know the compass settings? Do they have one built in?

We don't really have city blocks either

That is a very good question. Here in Miami we have the ocean to our east. So we use that as a reference point. Knowing that, we now know where our west is and our north and south. So, our city street are divided in sections of east, west, north and south. Sometines with underlying names. But, always with coordinates to give us an idea what area of the city the address is located.

Re: Asking for Directions

I was asked by a lorry driver for directions to the industrial estate . Giving him directions as best I could he thanked me and drove off , after he had gone I realised I'd told him completely the wrong way , so I legged it home and hid indoors .

I need a sat nav installed in my brain ......
