Once the howls and false news had quietened down and the full picture has emerged a VERY different story has emerged.
He was cuffed and a man sat on his legs .
He killed that man no doubt about it.

Killed him? Certainly. Justified when taking everything into account? Justified to be restrained - absolutely. It was unfortunate that he died but the drug load he had on board was very much a contributory factor and the agro from the growing antagonistic crowd ment that the one policeman had to keep Floyd out of it.

Doesn’t matter AD there was no need for him to kneel on his neck for so long as he was already restrained .
Nope he killed him unnecessarily.

I agree. The man was killed. There were many ways Floyd could have been restrained...kneeling on his neck for 9 minutes was not one of them. Power and control, right there.

Re: Derek Chauvin murder trial starts

Note: A POTENCIAL hostile crowd has absolutely nothing to do with how a suspect is handled.

Note: Once a suspect is handcuffed and lying on the ground with a police office sitting on his legs, there is absolutely no possible LEGAL reason to exert force on a suspect's neck.

Clear cut murder ! PERIOD

Note: I have lived an interesting life and unfortunately I have personally seen many cops who have used excessive violence against people. Entirely too many cops in America who have no business being on ANY police force. There are some men, and a few women who love to hurt people. As an alleged civilized nation we must take the next step a weed them out ,and where necessary, send them to prison where they belong.

Due process is still critically important, perhaps no more so than when a case appears to be cut and dry before a trial starts. Threats of mob violence cannot be allowed to trump trials - especially in this day and age of social media when perspectives and facts can be erroneous or maliciously presented.

I am grateful that we have a system that prevents snap judgements and will be pushing this case though the rigors of the justice system. We have to respect the process.

Surfermom, you are right. Due process is critical. Derek Chauvin will get his day in court, but unfortunately, his victim, George Floyd, has been denied due process.

In the unlikely event that Derek Chauvin is found not guilty, the riots which will surely follow, will make the Rodney King riots look like child's play.

Floyd's fault. If he had cooperated from #1 none of this would have happened.

Re: Derek Chauvin murder trial starts

Ah ha. I see one of our posters actually believes that the police have a right to kill a suspect if that suspect is merely unruly.

rather reminds me of a case from Portland Oregon where a nurse in a psychiatric hospital called the police on an unruly patient. The police arrived and entered the ward, and approached the patient who was brandishing a wooden pencil. The two police officers, "fearing for their lives" (ha ha) shot the patient dead.

It is a sad day for America when the police have an absolute right to kill anyone who is "unruly".
