Well it's just a personal opinion, Aysa. At 52, I'm probably a little out of touch with all of the current youthful goings-on, but I keep my ear to the ground as much as I can.

Well, one would assume that it should have been ready for the beginning of the year but it was obvious on our last visit that that wasn't possible. These things take a lot of planning, I use Liverpool as an example, a previous city of culture and completely transformed. It is a fantastic opportunity for Hull so let's hope it's all completed asap.

Re: Hull City of Culture 2017

Hi

Yes Hull.

I have a long association with it, did some of my training there many moons ago.

My Dad moved to Hornsea when he retired, but did a load of work for Hull Transport when they were in a mess.

I do not like the place, far too much violence for my liking.

Lots of lovely people there, but let down by a very PC Correct Council.

One of my friends (now deceased) came from Hull and as he was boasting how good it was, him, me and two others decided to pay a visit having booked a bed and breakfast. We decided to call at a nightclub and at the entrance, my friend (a great cricket fan) announced "Geoff Boycott bats on water". For some reason, the bouncers took offence at this statement and kicked the living crap out of him before throwing us down a flight of stairs. That was forty years ago and nothing's changed on the nightlife front by the look of that report. Needless to say, I've never been back.

I too didn't venture out to watch the fireworks, but my son had a ringside seat (he has a balcony overlooking the river) and said that it was a spectacular sight. However, what did amuse him (and me) was that after it had all finished, a solitary rocket was sent up from the other side of the River (the Yellow Bellies, or Lincolnshire mob). Great. Brilliant sense of humour.

I went to Hull a lot as a child. My uncle lived at Bilton Grange.

Good or bad, it's great news. City of Culture, can only improve it and give so much more.

Just one thing which makes me think , is that BBC reported that Hull will have a different event on every week of this year. Now that takes some doing, but will bring the people and with them the cash.

Win ,win situation..

Thanks folks, I'm sure it will be an interesting and entertaining year for Hull.

Don't listen to all the stories about so-called 'violence'. Name me one large city in which that doesn't occur.

I didn't realise you lived in Hull, Emerald. Do you really drive a Lamborghini?
