Re: old git rants

I love all of the different dialects and terminology. It would be boring if we all sounded the same.

There was a time when gay meant happy and pants were something you wore.

In fact I always call my mother 'Mam' - I really only slip back into my true Yorkshire tongue when I am with family or close friends. If I did it at work, I suppose I would not be understood.

Re: old git rants

Some of us native Yorkshire folk still do use thee and thou (pronounced tha)

`appen,I`ll si thee`

`thas reet there`

Not prying but what part of Yorkshire? When I worked /fished up there there were so many dialects/phrases. From the Dearne valley,to Todmorden, taking in Hull and Catterick.

My `patch` as a lowly civil servant was Yorks and Humberside and fishing was mostly the Wharfe,Ouse and Swale

'appen tha will OG - West Yorkshire - on the Calder . I remember when I returned home to my village one time and went to the local Chinese takeaway, someone said to me:

'Tha's not from round here is tha?' because I had started to modify my accent so all the overseas docs could understand me. I had to smile.

I have lived in Cumbria for 39yrs and people say you have not lost your accent. I do not want to, I am a born and bred Lancastrian and have the lingo to go with it and I am proud of it. I love tinternet.
Should'nt the war of the roses still be going on?
People have said that I sound just like Fred Dibnah, wrong, he sounded like me.
ps,
I do not like drivers who park on the pavement making pedestrians walk in the road.

Red, the sign of true blood.
White the sign of weakness.
