Article 50 can be unilaterally revoked - thats true. Didn't hear it in the referendum though.
Anyway the referendum in 1975 was advisory as well - maybe we shouldn't have been in the EU in the first place - or maybe we were in the EU illegally all this time.

Not sure whether you noticed but the referendum was held in June 2016. The decision by the ECJ that article 50 can be unilaterally rescinded was not made till 10th Dec 2018.
Wonder if that's why you didn't see it in the referendum
On 10 December 2018, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) delivered its judgment in the Wightman case on the revocation of a notification of an intention to withdraw from the EU under Article 50 TEU.
At last!! you are correct, the 1975 referendum was indeed only 'advisory', however, the vote was whether or not we CONTINUED as members which was voted for by 67% to 33%.
