Yesterday two events taking place with a poor weather forecast. Worlds naked Bike ride in the city. Or Natural History Society of Northumbria, open day for the public at their private nature reserve.
I opted for the latter, as ive supported the day by helping out at the main hide, chatting to the visitors explaining about the site and letting them view things through my optics.
Its not easy for me to get here now, as its a mile to walk half of it through woodland and reedbeds and it can be clarty.
But the final stretch now benefits from a new boardwalk and hide.

The Tern platform was created to allow both Common Terns and Black headed gulls to nest, most of the BH gulls chicks had succumbed to the Otter.
But the tern young have better luck as small shelters help prevent ariel predators devouring them. And the Terns themselves are adept at seeing off predators.

Common tern.
Every year we hope for one of the specials to put in an appearance for the visitors, Bittern, Otter, or Kingfisher
But with appalling weather we were not hopeful until this.
Result a lot of happy folks even though it was chucking it down and viewed through glass this tiny jewel entertained us all briefly.
Other activities included pond dipping, live mammals and moths on display, the kids loved it and a few more potential members to join.
It sounds as though you had a very interesting day Nom and made all the better for being able to do something you really enjoy.
You did really well walking all that way too.

Shame the weather wasn't better for the Day.
It was better for us in the hide than for the 50 daft cyclists that took part in the bike ride.
