A question for those who play golf or bowls
I am spending some time 3 or 4 days a week with a German lady who can speak some English but wants to be able to converse more with English people with whom she plays bowls and golf with. Today we were talking about the British sense of humour, she doesnīt always understand it, understandable I think. The question is really Helgaīs, she wanted to know why when playing bowls and something doesnīt go as planned the English laugh it off and make jokes about it, but when playing golf and things donīt go as planned she says they donīt joke, they get seriously upset and grumpy. The only reason I could think of was because it costs a lot of money to play golf and not much to play bowls. Any golfers or bowlers here who have other explanations?
