£11.25 for a bottle of cider

Frosty Jack's 3 litre 7.5% alcohol cider will rise in price from £3.50 to £11.25 today.

This is because the Scottish Government has introduced a 50p per unit of alcohol price rise effective from today.

A range of other drinks will also increase in price.

I think this will fuel a rise in home brewing and distilling.

Mmm same with my wine. I can't even buy a large bottle.
Cider is horrid anyway.

Scotland is the first country in the world to implement this. What will all the street drinkers do?

I am glad they are putting up the price of alcohol, it has been far too cheap for too long. Many people drink far more than is good for them.

It is said that the next step will be to prohibit the sale of alcohol after 8 pm. Unfortunately in my opinion, this is just yet another example of the majority being "punished" for the actions of the minority.

The makers of Frosty Jack and other street ciders can't be happy - no-one is going to pay £11.25 for a bottle. Effectively all alcohol has become at least 50p a unit; one may as well buy some nice gin.

Stealth tax unfair on those many sensible drinkers, will hit the pbs hard and Scotlands Whiskey industry.
