Yes, the term does refer to a man.

As for me, no way would I be interested, not having seen a rather interesting documentary which showed the life of men (the Silver Foxes, so to speak) hired by cruise ships to dance with the single older ladies during the cruise. Far too much hard work involved for far too little money. Mind you, the question is moot because George Clooney I most certainly ain't!
