If You Saw Someone Famous In A Shop, Would You Say, ‘Hello’?

Today, there was a man in front of me, at my local chemist. I looked at him and gave a little friendly smile, as you might to a stranger.

It was his turn, and he’d come to collect a prescription. The assistant asked him his name and she didn’t quite catch it, so he spelt it...G.A.U.N.T.. l then realised that it was one of my favourite radio|television presenters/ controversial shock jock.. Jon Guant.

You might not be familiar with him but he had his own local radio show and was a presenter on Talk Sport. He has also appeared on Question Time and Sky News too.

I wanted to say, ‘l loved your show so much, l used to take you with me on walks with my dogs, so l could listen on my Walkman and not miss a thing!

Me, the usually, up for it, confident thing just froze and didn’t say a word, as l felt l might be intruding in on his privacy.

So, l ask..If you saw someone famous in a shop or some other public place, would you speak to them?
Maybe, the same has happened to you and you did say something?

He’d have probably thought l was a ‘stalker’, if l had told him all l knew and remembered about him!!

I’m wondering, if, after spelling out his name in a loudish voice, is he miffed that, l didn’t go all goo goo and didn’t stare at him adoringly?!!

As I have said before, I have met quite a number of people who have been in the public eye, over the years, no big deal. They are human like the rest of us, some pleasant, others not so pleasant.

I wonder, if there is a member on this site that is famous but keeps a low profile?
Would they post, what it’s like to be recognised in public?

Tara .... but was that when you appeared on television and knew who they were or, someone who just happened to be in a public place at the same time as you?

I came face to face with Sir Ian Mckellen at an event. We had quite a long conversation, during which I said to him " I know your face from somewhere " !! His reply.. "Oh, I'm only an actor " We carried on conversing for a little while and only later did I realise who he was . Too late then, and all things pass, but he may not have been impressed.
The worst was, I gave him a tea towel (don't ask why a tea towel).. followed up with "when you wash your dishes, you can think of me "

I would not. Famous people are just like anyone else in that while they are carrying on their business they may not want interruption.

Most probably would be polite but with my luck I would be the one that would hit on one that would not be so nice.
