1889 – The first jukebox goes into operation at the Palais Royale Saloon in San Francisco.

1959 _ Top of the hit parade "Mack the Knife" Bobby Darin

1963 – The BBC broadcasts the first ever episode of Doctor Who

1990 – The first all woman expedition to the south pole (3 Americans, 1 Japanese and 12 Russians), sets off from Antarctica on the 1st leg of a 70 day, 1287 kilometre ski trek.

I never liked Dr. Who, Star-trek was my thing then. Bobby Darin was great, my favourite Darin song was 'Things'.
Whatever happened to the 15 Women going to the South Pole?, did they make it?, how did they manage to keep their mouths covered for so long?.

Very interesting AB ....... I was surprised to learn the first jukebox went into operation as early as 1889!

Mags, the juke box as you know it is nothing like the first ones, which had a handle on the side for the listener to turn whilst listening to the recording.
This was later developed to take a coin to operate the mechanism which played the recoring back to the person though listening tubes.

Ahh, I understand now AB ...... that sounds similar to the barrel organ doesn't it.
