Dig it?

When I was young my Dad was working on a farm and dug up some Roman coins, a lot of them. It turned out they were forgeries and had something to do with a monastery which was on the site in the Middle Ages and also a tunnel was found which led to the local pub!
I've never dug up anything really interesting, so far a halfpenny, a few marbles, a watch face and a plastic Santa have emerged from this garden's potterings.

Have you ever found anything exciting in the soil?

Re: Dig it?

I found a very old coin, a 'token' apparently which proved to be worthless

Interesting story Twiz...shame they were forgeries
Nothing terribly exciting here .. some broken glazed pots, a bent rusty screwdriver but the best can only be a small flint axe head or scraper. It fits perfectly into my palm. Oh yes, a milk bottle which came from the dairy that was part of the farmland we are on.
Tho' when we took down the original shed we found a lot of 'men's' magazines hidden underneath

Re: Dig it?

I haven't personally found anything interesting Twiz, but my brother used to find lots of things and sell them to museums. Him and his missus had some sort posh, high-tech detectors and used to search somewhere in Lincolnshire I believe.
A friend also dug up a lovely little crucifix many years ago, and gave it to me. My brother said these used to sometimes be fixed to the front of bibles , and he thought it was one of those. It's still next to my bed to this day.
