Dumped postal deliveries

Well how about this then.

Yesterday my postman gave me an small package and told me the following tale.
It was a horrid looking package, damp, discoloured and faded. He said he was sorry it was in such a state, but someone had discovered a load of mail dumped in a ditch in Bedfordshire, and Royal Mail were just trying to deliver it now - after about 2 years!
My parcel was some vitamins I had sent for, and not only are they probably past their expiry date now, I wouldn't dare take them anyway as they looked like they had been laying in dirty water for some time.
The poor postman was a new lad and wasn't very happy about being given the rotten job of apologising and explaining to each household about the state of their mail.

It must have been so long ago, I had forgotten I had even ordered them, which is not like me, I'm usually more on the ball than that, but I think it was at a time when Mum was terribly ill so I had other things on my mind.
Do you think I ought to put in a claim? They were nearly £14.?

Post people round here are like Magpies, when you see one there is always another not far away.

Re: Dumped postal deliveries

Who would you claim from Mups if it is the Royal Mail you would need proof of posting if the retailers they will probably say you should have claimed for the lost goods within 28 days.

It is not the first time I have heard of mail being 'dumped'. There was a case in the papers some years ago.

My son picked up a sack of mail in the road early one morning and took it to the sorting depot. He thinks it must have fallen out of a post van when the doors were not properly closed.
