over 60's apartments

RJ & nurse Gillian are considering moving into one of the many developments of retired folk.
We have good reasons for wanting to be somewhere with help nearby, but don't want "Butlins"

Any advice?

Re: over 60's apartments

I wish I had done my homework 'first' ........
These places are 'managed' by a company of various ilk's, the lesson is to find 'good' management as well as a suitable site.
Make sure the management is 'independant' from the landlord.
The link I give below, has accredited managements - go to the link and click on 'accreditations' that will give you a list of genuine managements - if you need further assistance just ask RJ - wish you well ......

RJ - they've changed the format - click on Q & A at the top, then scroll down and look to your right side of screen - the management companies are there - click on one to gain information on that company, then you can Email one or two, to see if they have properties in your required area ......

Re: over 60's apartments

I'd suggest looking up the company or even a particular building online to see if there are reviews or anything suspect.

Management Companies can range from excellent to useless - like my 90-year-old mother-in-law's company who have left her flat with no central heating for three weeks and do not respond to phone calls, letters or emails and you can't even speak to anyone as all calls go through a system to one place - leave a message!

What's worse is they became a charity some time ago and promptly down-graded all the support they were contracted to do, removed all the wardens that they'd agreed with the Council to continue and switched it all to online or phone help only - which they never answer! stevmk2

RJ, don't go anywhere where they lock you in, even for your own safety.

RJ don't think I could see anything nicer than the ones in Oz. Bit far to travel though

Our flats and those in Oz were for over 50's. Better age mix for some maybe.

I suppose if your mind is made up RJ and both of you are in full agreement so be it. Don't forget you will be taking on a lot of rules and regulations and, as Spitty says, make sure your freedom and movements are not restricted.
I hope you find what suits you and the best of luck to the both of you.
