Talk about a captive audience!

I stayed in a luxury hotel for three nights this weekend.
Don't often "do" top end as I much prefer the chains
..what you saw on the website is what you get. I like that
However luxury stsys have been worth the extra money once in a blue moon and it is usually for the food and facilities and sometimes location is the USP
Noo hotel has ever disappointed me more than this one we went to in Cheshire ,(although we did have a lovely time)
It wasn't the staff, although they seemed mostly young and inexperienced they were eager to please. It wasn't the room or public areas... though quite dated (not even deliberately retro)
It was definitely the fact that you were in the middle of nowhere and no menu choice other than a crap
one (,pardon my French!)

À starter example:
Serrano ham

No bread ..no salad ..nothing
Just five slithers of ham with had been previously dried and cured..
Have a guess as to the price....

Lots of stars eat there. I will look to see what Harrods charges.
I bet it is at least double.

I had Brillat Savarin cheese.. which was delicious
But that's not cooking
It was described as plated with marmalade chutney, brioche toast and with homemde pesto
No chutney, we needed magnifying glasses for the brioche slices and pesto was a smear and distinctly jar-like

£13!
