It's driving me Mad

There is a cicada in my bedroom I can't find it because it only chirps when I am still, so when I am trying to sleep it chirps, when I try to find the little bastard it is quiet.



Until last night l loved the sound of cicadas, it was the sound of summer.

I remember staying in a motel with a friend in America many years ago (might have been when we went to Disney World) and as we settled down to sleep we heard that kind of sound. I do believe we found it.

Rather a solitary one than a whole tree of them chattering away. But I sympathise with you Bruce.

He looks rather cute. Do they do any damage, Bruce, or are they just a harmless annoyance when you are trying to sleep?

That reminded me of a hotel in Morocco. It was lovely hotel but the room stunk of insecticide so I stupidly opened the window. Soon I knew why they'd blitzed it; the room filled with mosquitos. I squashed loads but couldn't get rid of them all so they sang to me all night and I was bitten to hell by the morning!

No, they don't, their lava stage lives underground for years they are only in this stage for a short period. It is actually a bit late for them to still be active but I think the warm steamy weather has kept them going longer (not sure).

I'd like to know how the bugger got in because there is fly wire on all my windows but their noise is nothing like the sound of mozzies. More like a grasshopper only continuous and loud, as I say it really is the sound of summer nights.
