Ogham ... a gift and a disappointment!

Ogham - is said to be one of the earliest alphabets. Dating from 4th century and found on artifacts across the whole of Ireland.

I was given a small silver charm as a birthday gift - small enough to go on a charm bracelet but also big enough to be used as a pendant necklace. It has what is obviously an Ogham inscription on it - and I would love to know what it means.

To that end I have search the 'net - there are many sites that claim to be able to 'translate' the inscription - but, strangely enough, they all came up with different answers!! I even emailed a photo to one site which claimed to be the 'official' Ogham site. They have not even deigned to answer - which is very disappointing.

I am not interested in 'New Age Hippie' versions or personal interpretations - just a genuine transcription.

Do any of our very knowledgeable members know of anyone who can help?

I’m afraid I wouldn’t have a clue about Ogham Silver, even the ordinary gaelige was double dutch to me at school. I’m sorry I can’t help you.

Did you try these sites?

Hi Jem - that first link doesn't work.

Have sent a photo and an email to the second one.

Edit: Just bounced back on a mailer daemon - address not found.

Thanks for trying to help me anyway!

Could well be, Spitty, I would still like to know what it says though. Probably turn out to mean 'Don't be nosy' !
