Were The Police Right To Punish The Driver On This Occasion?

A mourner driving in a funeral procession, has accused the police of being disrespectful for punishing him because he jumped a red light. He received a letter stating, that he would either have to have three penalty points added to his driving licence or attend a safety course which would cost him £89.

Do you think the police were right to punish him? Or could they have shown more sympathy and let him off on this occasion?

Of course the police were right to prosecute that idiot. People could have been attending another funeral or two due to his stupidity.

WHAT ninth car in the line OMG must have been just normal cars going to the funeral

But the 97 your old Mother in Laws car was stopped...DIDUMS.

Why was she not part of the officials Funerals cars.

But it brings past memories.

Did not make up my day...but is a bit sick.

Had just been my wife's funeral ...holding my daughter as she watched the coffin of her Mother go to be burnt.

Going home after the Funeral in their cars through the country lanes I live in we had to turn right.

A van stopped out of respect to our turn to the right.

Was watching and a car behind with a women driver who was talking to her passenger OMG shes not going to stop smashed into him at 40 miles an hour, smashed him into a ditch and wrecked her car

Obey the rules of the road and be alert

No bloody excuse.

No excuse. A red light is a red light. The driver could have killed or injured someone who was on green.

That's no excuse for dangerous driving.

Jumping the red may be understandable, given the circumstances, but inexcusable .....

I agree with most. He jumped a red light, yes he should be prosecuted for doing it.
I've seen people do that here, but there is never any police around or a camera to do them for it, it's down right dangerous.

I have sympathy for the driver but if they had got off with it, what other excuses would police have to take into account? Well, unless you were one of the Beckhams of course.
