Saint Nicholas night
We have just had a visit from Saint Nicholas (although we did spot one of our lovely German neighbours creeping past our gate).Saint Nicholas had tied a bag to our gate so off I went to bring it indoors. The bag contains a bottle of champagne, a box of chocolates, lots of wrapped loose chocolates and a bag of home made German Christmas cookies.
Thank you so much Saint Nicholas (alias Silvia). The problem I have is that I very much want to say "thank you", but apparently I canīt do this as Iīm not supposed to know who is playing Saint Nicholas. The first time this happened I got into trouble for asking who left the bag !
Such a nice tradition though I think, itīs certainly brightened up my evening.

I'll have you know I'm good every year, haha. We are very lucky, we have very mixed nationality neighbours around us, German, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Dutch, French, Polish and others, and, apart from our English neighbours on one side of us, who have fallen out with everyone. mostly due to the fact that they think they are superior to everyone else, everyone seems to get along very well despite language differences. We all help each other out as and when we can, it all works well, at least for us. So many different nationalities, so many different traditions, we love it.I do like this Saint Nicholas night, we now have another bag hanging on the gate, I don't know which particular Saint Nicholas has left this one, but I shall go down and retrieve it any minute now.
