Dangers for kids on line

Dad Warns Parents About Popular Kids' App After Daughter Gets Disturbing Messages
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2017..._17815592.html

Many of the chatty apps for kids are quite dangerous.

We have words that grace has to report to us if they are used. Also if she feels uncomfortable in any way she knows she can tell us and we won't judge but will help.

Are these words advice given out on!one to parents, or just your own idea, Julie?

Having read through the article, what makes me angry is this...

They recommended to go into privacy settings and switch off the location information. App users are also able to make their account private and request only their friends can direct message them. This is advised.

The privacy settings and location switched off, should be set at default, not the other way around.

Our own Ruthio, we sat down and looked at what is going on and compiled a list ourselves. She is pretty sensible and will tell us if anything makes her uncomfortable, trouble was some conversations are designed to make the child feel comfy, so just saying that didn't help we had to go further and say some things were just to be reported however she felt.

Personally I think the parents should monitor which sites their younger children go on. If many of the "chatty apps for kids are quite dangerous" then it's up to the parents to put a stop on their child visiting that site.

Re: Dangers for kids on line

It's important IMO to teach them safety on line that means visiting some sites I may not like but to do it in a safe manner.

I want the kids to be confident when they are no longer with me that they are able to navigate the Internet safely.

Much like teaching them to cross the road, knowing the dangers it feels odd to send them out there but if you teach them to be safe the risk is very much less.
