Being called a Bag Lady

Whilst watching the Bafta's last night I was amused at Fry's reference to a Bag Lady after presenting the Best Costume Designer award.

In truth dressed as she was, the women did resemble one.

Would you have been offended !

Yes I would be offended but - some of these designers do look bloomin odd
I remember Russell Harty commenting on Viv Westwood and rightly so
She was sitting next to him BTW

No, I wouldn't have been offended. But I think the salient point was that Fry described this woman as his dear friend who would have "got it". As such this is a harmless bit of banter between friends, but what he wasn't bearing in mind was that it was in front of a massive audience, most of whom wouldn't have known that Fry and the woman were good friends.

Many people particularly in artistic circles are aware of Fry's acerbic humor and would not be offended

I wouldn't have been but then I frequently look like a bag lady stomping thought the mud muffled against the cold .

I saw the programme. I agree she did look like she'd slept in her clothes, but I don't think he should have said that down the microphone.
