TV Licence exemption

My TV licence expires on 28th February but I've discovered that I don't need one now I'm 75. However, I've just had an email from the Licensing Authority telling me to renew and cannot find a place on their website that will let me tell them I'm now exempt. Anyone else had this problem? Do I just not renew it and wait for them to chase me? Or what??

Re: TV Licence exemption

I expect you'd have to send something to them to verify your age.

Thanks Eliza, trouble is, when you get to that page and click on the link that says "Apply for an over 75 licence" you get the page that tells you to pay!

Hi Sue is this any help,..

http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-i...-and-over-aud3
It seems you need to apply for a free licence so imajine you apply here following the link but don't pay.

..
If you’re the current licence holder You’re eligible to apply for a free over 75 TV Licence. We’ll automatically refund any money you have over paid for each full month after your 75th birthday. You’ll receive your refund when your over 75 TV Licence is issued. If you don’t already have one, Apply for an over 75 TV Licence.

Doesn´t seem to cover those like me paying by direct debit, but thanks for the link.

I seem to recall you have to give them your national insurance number because we had a right royal pain of a time trying to get one for our down stairs neighbour. She had lost her NI number and her Tv license number so fun all round.

Why not give them a ring - they can then tell you the procedure
I have had to phone in the past - no hassle there

Re: TV Licence exemption

Just managed to (I think) apply for a shortened TV licence via their slightly confusing web-site. Yes you have to fill in your NI and licence no. but it seems to be aimed at full payment, not the new and exciting DD method. I assume they´ll reduce my next DDs until my birthday, but - who knows? No info on the site.
