Re: Ukraine

I think it would be a big mistake to interfere where Russia is involved!

Re: Ukraine

Putin has troops in Crimea already, it certainly would be foolish.

Re: Ukraine

Very worrying we had two Ukrainian girls in our house at college.
I took one of them to the Priory to hear a performance of the Boyen Ensemble, a group of Ukrainian singers ...

It was magical , listening to the music in the candlelight. I looked to see if 'Y' was enjoying the music and her face was glistening with tears .

She hated the Russians and told me that at one time they would not allow the singing of Ukranian folksongs so they were sung in secret and passed down by word of mouth.

I do hope things calm down and this is not the beginning of terrible times for the Ukranian people...

Re: Ukraine

Obama has already told them to behave themselves or there will be 'consequences' - so I am sure they will listen and go home quietly !

No mate, Ukraine is an independent nation but politically half of the population want to move more towards Europe and the other half more toward Russia, that has been the cause of the recent unrest. Looks now though like Putin is making the decision for them, so worrying times ahead for some and dangerous times for us all if the politicians make their usual mess of things...

Meg darlin' I think that's the hope of all of us. If you're still in contact with 'Y' - send her this:

You might recognise the tune - sung by Judith Durham.

Re: Ukraine

Don't think there was ever a chance of us getting involved, we buy oil and gas from Russia, the Ukraine relies heavily on Russia for oil and gas so they will have to come to some agreement.

Why a government should change because of mass demonstrations in Kiev I'll never understand

Hague seems keen to encourage them, can we have a change of government next time we have a big demo in London
