The Tomato Festival!

It was glorious - the first evening in France we spotted a poster for a tomato festival (630 varieties!) at a nearby chateau, taking place on the Saturday and the Sunday. Couldn't resist!

Pics

Lots of woodland with beautiful drifts of wild cyclamen

and fabulous buildings!

It's a hotel, conference centre and of course wedding venue, so, if anyone is looking for a special place .... Chateau de Bourdaisiere

Love the photos DM, . . looks lovely, looking at the tomatoes I think I'll go and throw all mine in the bin, they're nothing like the ones in your photos.

Re: The Tomato Festival!

It was absolutely fascinating Denis- I've got some pics with lots of varieties displayed. I'll photobucket some and put them on.

There you go!

You could enter the ornamental veg garden too and see the things growing. Obviously these are pumpkin, not tomato but you get the idea ..

Re: The Tomato Festival!

We were able to try a few varieties. They do have slightly different (some very different) tastes.
I have seeds of Crimean Black and Peche Blanche to try to grow for next year. I could easily have bought a packet of every type but one has to draw the line! Couldn't find the Jersey Devil seeds but I would have likes to try those. I've grown 'long' tomatoes in previous years and they are usually good - nice and sweet and juicy. San Marzano (or something like that) is a nice Italian one
(Should have put all this in the Gradening section maybe? P'raps I'll do a link?

Re: The Tomato Festival!

Thanks Mags!
Actually I've already got my 2010 seed order in, and have some toms on order, so the extras from Bourdaisiere are already unexpected afterthougts. Maybe for 2011 though
