Oh wow Azz! Love grasshoppers! When I was a kid in East Anglia, my brother and I used to "race" them! Don't see them around here.

You see pictures of clouds of them flying to devastate the crops in Africa and some of our Western States. Horrifying sight for a farmer when they migrate like that!

Thanks for that Dandysmom,it must be devastating for the farmers to lose their crops to them.....

They sound like a smaller version of the locust!

"Locust is the swarming phase of short-horned grasshoppers of the family Acrididae. These are species that can breed rapidly under suitable conditions and subsequently become gregarious and migratory. They form bands as nymphs and swarms as adults—both of which can travel great distances, rapidly stripping fields."
