I'll give that a go Mazzie as I'll probably like it if it's similar to Catherine Cookson's style.
I love how she gets the period atmosphere ... and she handles relationships sensitively without been mushy and gushy like Mills & Boons.
Speaking of which if anyone like's 18th century soldier/spy books they ought to try The Lord John Grey books by Diana Gabaldon.
The history is well researched, offering a rich tapestry of what life was like then. A good yarn with a gallant hero. Be aware though that the rather dishy gallant hero is homosexual and the story includes his various emotional and sexual encounters ... and is a tad descritive in places so might not be everyone's cup of tea.
