Shopping in your PJ's
Well, I've never done it, or even thought about doing it.Confession time - have you ever gone to the supermarket wearing nightclothes, or barefoot?

And do I recall a story where mums were asked not to drop children off at school whilst still in their PJ's?

No way, I don't even come downstairs in my PJ's. Even when taking my son to the station at 6 a.m. when he has to go to London I would not dream of not getting dressed. What if the car broke down
I had to go and give a message to my neighbour yesterday, so I waited until 10 a.m. then rang their bell. The husband (retired) answered the door in the skimpiest bathrobe I have ever seen. He had to keep adjusting it to hide his manhood whilst he talked to me

I wouldn't even think of it, it would be like one of those nightmares where you are in your jim jams and everyoone else in in evening dress waiting for you to give a speech. (or do only I have them?)I suppose it depends a bit on your pyjamas, some are more substantial, more like leisure suits, but you wouldn't want to be caught in anything peek-a-boo. And some people sleep in the buff.
