I heard about this on the radio the other day
Willing participants are being asked to record their sighting of Hedgehogs particularly as they emerge from hibernation from the 1st of February
Hogwatch
Jointly funded by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and PTES and run in collaboration with Royal Holloway, University of London, HogWatch was the biggest survey of hedgehogs undertaken in Great Britain. Its aim was to establish where hedgehogs are present and where they are absent.
Of the twenty thousand records that were collected, 75% of sites had hedgehogs present (ranging from 83% in the East of England and North East regions to 41% in London). Hedgehog distribution in England and the Welsh borders shows a clear east-west division, supporting the findings from our Mammals on Roads survey.
How to take part
We are still collecting records so if you have any hedgehog sightings you can record them at www.hogwatch.org.uk. From the HogWatch homepage you can also download a free hedgehog screensaver, factsheet and hog-friendly gardening information.
From 1st Feb 2012 we are also asking people to record their sightings of hedgehogs as they start to emerge in spring after hibernation.
I'll sign up, I like hedgehogs. Had one wandering around the garden just before Christmas and my neighbours kindly took it to the local wildlife sanctuary as it should have been in hibernation

I have a hedgehog which comes in the garden and is more than welcome because they eat the slugs
I wish I had one, done everything to encourage them but nothing so far. I have just realised that it was the Great British Bird Count this weekend when you count and identify the birds in your garden for one hour.
