Allotment

Am a bit late this year because of the weather and the ground being waterlogged but.

Last week put in two rows off second earlies(potatoes)

Two rows off parsnips

One row off leeks

Three trays off onions grown from seed planted in Oct in cold frame(find I get less rot than planting sets)

Last month planted in trays tomatoe. caulflower, and sprouts to trans plant end of April.

Living in the south we can do things a bit earlier than the rest of the country.

Re: Allotment

Oh lucky you! Sounds like a good assortment. I haven't even started my seeds (basil, tomatoes, chilis) yet as it has been so bitterly cold and snowy. I usually set them out the first week in May; start indoors mid-March.

Re: Allotment

Given that we are still about 12" deep in snow I think it'll be a while before I catch up to you lol

We're going to try parsnips this year. Never grown them before so nice to try something new.

Re: Allotment

I haven't put anything in yet - the ground is still very cold.
However - there are swelling buds on the fruit bushes and canes, so spring is well on the way

Re: Allotment

Parsnips???-I know the old `lore` says plant early but your soil must be warm. I haven`t even thought about sowing them yet-nor anything else outside for that matter

Re: Allotment

Allotments, . . gardening, . as CM says, it's still winter here, . . I saw a few Crocus buds appearing a week ago but they've snuck back into the ground.

If you have squirrels, Nero, they have probably eaten them! The wretched vermin do it all the time....

Re: Allotment

I live in peace with my squirrels-at my age anyone can get my nuts and I`m far too old to chase up a tree to stop them
