I think, Cate darlin' it was a little parcel of powder wrapped in a twist of paper which was placed with the washing in the washing machine and was supposed to keep whites white instead of turning a yellowish hue. There was also 'Robin' starch, which the Dragon was very fond of using - particularly on my shirts - she would quite frequently overdo it with the starch on my shirt collars and I would come home from school with a red raw stripe on my neck and throat where the collar had rubbed a raw spot.

Penny arrow maybe what we used to call everlasting strip a strip of caramel toffee which, as the name implied, lasted for ages.

Speaking of Camay soap my Grandma used to use a handcream in a yellow pot think it was called Nulon? I loved the smell. I don't think they make it anymore, they used to make a pink one and a yellow one.

I remember the first and .................last time I swore in front of my ma, she it was that introduced my tongue to a pinkish block of hard evil smelling soap. I don't know what hurt more that taste or being sent to bed with no supper.

I didn't send my boys to bed with no supper but I did use soap on their tongues when the little devils were lying to me.

my sons still remember, they are both over forty now. You don't need to put enough in to make it to make them gag but just a touch of soap on the tongue is enough. Too soft maybe I never hit my kids not really too soft just thought there might be other ways of getting through.
